Cherno Jobe reacts on his loan move from Senegalese side Génération Foot back to Real de Banjul and speaks on how he can help the team plus developing his game during his stay with the Gambia Football Federation league giants.

The youngster joined the Senegalese league club in late 2017 from Real de Banjul and went on to win the Senegal Premier League, Coupe du Sénégal, and the Super Cup.

Che, as fondly called, also played in the CAF Champions League with the Senegalese side before deciding on returning to us on a season-long loan deal.

Speaking to the Club’s in-house media, the Bundung-born prodigy gives a detailed explanation on how his move to the City Boys will impact both him and Ebou Jarra’s team.

Asked how he feels about re-joining Real de Banjul…

“It was not an easy decision to make (on leaving Génération Foot and return to Real de Banjul) but a player needs to play and I need playing time, so it feels great to re-join Real de Banjul as a big club in the Gambia and I am happy to join the team and ready to work with the team.”

Asked as to whether him joining Real De Banjul from Génération Foot will help in his development as a player…

“The move will help me a lot, from the first day I joined the club in the preseason, it has been great, all the players are working hard as we do at Génération Foot, and all the coaches help the players a lot, so it will help me a lot and I will develop a lot. You can see the development Real de Banjul is making; the pitch, the club house, all this is the same as Génération Foot, so all we need is to work hard and I see that here and it will help me develop a lot as a player.”

Asked what he can add to already a talented squad…

“The team is very good! The players are working hard and they are delivering and the coaches are doing the same. What I can say here is; I will continue working hard and I will do my best to help the team to win the league and every competition we will be playing this season. I believe I can help the team, we all know there is a good squad we all know that and we have seen that in the past two games but if I am given the chance, I will do my best to help the team more.”

Asked about the reception he received from his teammates and how he’s settling in since re-joining…

“Well, it has been so great, yeah. I have settled in, the players welcomed me and the coaches did the same, the board and even the fans, some of them do appreciate me a lot and I am grateful, so I am really having fun here. It’s great.”

Head Coach Ebou Jarra said of the player’s capture: “He was here during the break and trained with us a couple of times to keep his fitness because there was no football due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that’s when he started to build interest in re-joining us, I told him; ‘if you work hard, there is no reason why we can’t take you on loan’”.

The Real de Banjul gaffer, who already has other talented players in his squad, said; “We have a talented squad, he (Cherno) is a talented play, a very experienced player. So, what Che can add to the squad is experience, he has played in the Gambia league and he has also played in Senegal, which is a professional league. Now that he’s with us, we’ve seen during training the maturity he’s showing. His maturity and his experience combined will surely add value to the squad that we have, so we are really grateful that a player in Che’s caliber has decided to join Real de Banjul. He will definitely add more flavour to the current squad”.

Jarra also believes that the attacking midfielder can continue developing his game with Real de Banjul adding that: “Yes, we know that Che is still young and learning, he doesn’t need to adopt because he’s in his home country and a club that registered him as a younger player. We all know that there are one or two things a player needs to adjust, he was in Senegal, and now that he has decided to play in the Gambia under a different coach, obviously the coaching method, the playing method, and quite a lot of things surrounding players can be different, so it’s up to Che to roll his sleeves up and pull his socks up and try to work harder to improve himself as a young talented player”.

“There is a lot of talent in him, he just needs to unlock his locker and prove to everyone that he’s a very good player. So, there is always room for improvement for everybody including us coaches, yes. There’s a lot more we can work with Cherno, he is a willing person and he’s dedicated and he’s committed, so I’m sure he’ll get to places that he wants to be. We wish him all the best, and again, we are proud to have him at Real de Banjul Football Club.”
