Gaffer Ebou Jarra says his team’s tactical discipline and fighting spirit was what earned his side the vital three points against Gamtel FC at the National Technical Training Center (NTTC) in Yundum on Saturday.

New signing Baboucarr Jallow scored the game’s only goal as he came off the bench to put a dagger in the hearts of his former side, Gamtel.

The City Boys were frustrated in front of goal in the first half with Ebrima Jatta, Kally Drammeh, Foday Darboe and Mustapha Jallow all coming close on goal but to no avail before Jallow hopped off the bench to net the vital goal that scooped us the maximum points.

Speaking to the club’s in-house media after the game Jarra praised his side’s hard work and tactical discipline.

“It was very physical on the side of Gamtel, making a lot of fouls but that gave me hope because the only way they can stop us is to come with foul play, so it was a difficult game with a lot of fouls but my boys worked very hard and tactically we were better, because the only way they could stop us is by other means which is illegal, so i am happy with the result”.

On his goal scorer, Jarra said: “I know Baboucarr Jallow since his Gamtel days because I follow a lot of games in Gambian football, so I am glad he’s here to do us a great job.”

The gaffer meanwhile refused to be carried away by his side’s good start to the season after collecting six points in two consecutive matches.

“That (two games) doesn’t win you the title, it’s continuity that brings you success. I am just happy that out of two games we have six points.”

Baboucarr Jallow, the scorer of the only goal was elated after his first goal for the Club saying: “I was happy to score the only goal the game and scoring goals makes me happy.”

He explained the technique he used to score and also reserved special praise for club legend and coach Bai Omar Samba.

“It’s just knowing how run and position yourself in the box, to be able to score and that credit goes to Bai Omar Samba who taught us how to run in the field of play.”

The forward didn’t celebrate after scoring the only goal and on his debut to maintain his side’s 100% start to the new season saying he did that because of the respect he has for his former side.

“People know me today (in football) because of Gamtel, so I gave them that maximum respect which is why I didn’t celebrate.”

Defender Gregory Sambou was substituted midway through the opening period for Makaira Tambedou after receiving a heavy challenge and the gaffer felt sympathy for his defender but refused to be drawn in criticizing the referee.

“I really, really don’t want to talk about the referees, so I will avoid that but it’s sad that he went out with a leg breaker”.

The victory over the Telecommunication Boys put the City Boys in second on the table, behind the Gambia Armed Forces on goal difference.

The team will be back to action again this Saturday, January 30, when it faces Fortune FC at the NTTC in Yundum and 16:00GMT.
