Head Coach Bye Malleh Wadda says the goal he set at the start of the season for his side to win the league title remains in tact despite a 1-1 draw against Waa Banjul on Friday evening.

Striker Baboucarr Jallow came off the bench in the second half to cancel out Waa Banjul’s first-half lead, securing the City Boys a valuable point.

Bye Malleh’s side were hoping to go two points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand but they could only manage a point against a resolute Waa Banjul side, with the result meaning the City Boys sit atop the league table on goal difference.

“As I said from the start, that’s (winning the league) our goal and we are going to accomplish it, I do not doubt that we are the best team in this league and I have no doubt that we will win the league,” our gaffer said in his post-match comments before adding “I put that challenge and pressure on myself but it is something I think I am capable of doing with this team.”

Attacker Baboucarr opened his Real de Banjul scoring account for the season at exactly the same ground he scored his first goal for the club last season. Jallow received a through ball from fellow substitute Salifu Colley in the 78^th minute before leaving the sliding defender dead on the ground to cut to his right and smashing a ferocious shot past the Waa Banjul keeper to level the scoreline.

The head coach said of his goal scorer: “He (Baboucarr Jallow) took his chance very well. He has the skills and the capability of scoring. That was beautiful. He has been in and out of the team because of injuries since last season and his fitness is still questionable. We bring him when we feel the need to press the teams and he does that very well. I am happy with his performance.”

The boss lamented on the size of the pitch and his boys not playing to their strength.

“The conditions here at the Late Ousman Saho Football Field is that it is a small pitch so it’s difficult to break defenses but also, the fact that it’s very windy and we didn’t keep the ball well on the ground that gave us a tough time but when we kept the ball on the ground, we were able to break them and score them.”

The City Boys will return to action at the Late Ousman Saho Football Field on Tuesday to play their game-in-hand against Samger FC.
