Head Coach Bye Malleh Wadda says pressure got the better of his side during their ‘disappointing’ 1-1 draw against Samger FC on Tuesday.

“I am disappointed but you can’t sometimes fault these young boys for being anxious and feeling the pressure,” Wadda said in his post-match comments.

Real de Banjul again had to come from behind after conceding, this time as early as in the fifth minute before center-back David Sambou’s 58th-minute header pulled us level to secure a point from the game, dropping two in the process.

The 12-time GFF League champions would have been five points clear at the top had they won their last two games but draws against second-placed Waa Banjul and Samger FC means they just top the table by a single point.

“I think just like last week we were poor in the first half where we were a goal down and I think we became anxious. Even after we scored we were anxious to win so, we rushed a lot of things. We should have been a little bit more patient but it’s football and these things happen.” Wadda said.

He added: “I think it was more anxiety with sometimes the pressure of being on top and everybody expecting you to win.”

Despite dropping four valuable points in the last two outings, the gaffer remains optimistic saying he has what it takes to achieve his goal of winning the league.

The Whites did almost everything right except scoring the goals to win them the match as they dominated many parts of the proceedings against Samger, with almost all of the attackers to the team going close to scoring, creating chances after chances from the first half to the final minutes of the second half.

Bye Malleh and his charges will now return to the drawing board at the weekend when they host the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) on Sunday in Yundum at 4pm.
