Real de Banjul Football Club can confirm that talented youngster Kajally Drammeh has joined South African side Cape Town City FC on a permanent transfer.

The talented winger, a hugely popular figure around the club and its fans, left the country at the weekend to join the South African DStv Premiership club on a deal that will run until June 2026.

The 18-year-old has been performing superbly for us and continuing this form into this season which attracted interest from a host of European clubs including Anderlecht, FC Midtjylland, Budapest Honvéd, Slovan Bratislava, FC Torino, FC Krasnodar, Ferencváros and a host of other clubs.

President William Abraham said of the move: “I know many people will ask ‘why South Africa’ but remember this is a player who went to top Hungarian club Ferencváros and an Egyptian club where he visited, he was even supposed to go to Denmark twice but when Cape Town City came with an offer of a direct contract, we thought it was wise for him to go there and start his professional football career.”

“The South African top flight football is one of the best in Africa and is regarded as the most supported and the richest domestic football league on the continent after the CAF Competitions, it is even ranked better than some European leagues, so for me, this is a good move for Kajally where he can start his life and career,” he added.

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler said: “Kajally Drammeh is a young, attacking player that we scouted from the Gambia. He’s someone who we’ve been chasing since the start of the season but we only managed now to concluded the deal. We’ve been watching him every single week in the Gambian league.”

He added: “He’s 18 years old but shows a level of maturity that [indicates] he’s more than capable of already playing at the highest level. There was a lot of interest from Europe in him and I think we’ve managed to snap up a very talented young player before he made that move. Like I said, he’s a very creative player, an intelligent footballer, can play wide, can play as a 10, so he’s someone I believe will have a very bright future.”

For his part, Kajally, who will wear the number 7 jersey for his new club, thanked the management of the City Boys while wishing his teammates the best of luck for the rest of the season saying: “I’m delighted to sign my first professional contract, I can’t wait to get started here and I want to wish nothing but luck to everyone in Real de Banjul and I hope my teammates will continue the journey we started together.”

Cape Town City are currently 9^th on the 16-team PSL table with 22 points after 16 matches.
