Real de Banjul beat nine-man Marimoo 2-1 to move second on the table at the weekend with three games of the season to go.
Modou Lamin Demba’s header and brave goalkeeper Ebrima Jarju’s penalty earned Bye Malleh Wadda and his charges the valuable three points at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Bye Malleh saw his side create many goal scoring chances but were only able to edge the nine men of Marimoo 2-1.

Bye Malleh’s side were hardly short of creativity but have been unlucky in scoring goals. Second-half substitute Mustapha Jallow and Ebrima Singhateh both hit the woodwork with young forward Alasana Camara also being set on one-on-one with former Real de Banjul keeper Joseph Jarju but he couldn’t convert the glorious chance and a couple of other chances.

As Fortune FC clinched their first league title after beating Wallidan FC 2-1 on Thursday, the second place now becomes the most valuable position available on the table.
Real de Banjul currently occupies the second position but Bye Malleh is worried and stresses that his side needs to be winning games with goals to have any chance of finishing second.
Bye Malleh said: “I think we had a lot of chances that we should have taken this game out of here, but unfortunate we did not, and that can come back to haunt us.”
“I was telling them that at half time, that even where we win, we need to win with a good margin because goal difference could play a part, moving forward. Notwithstanding, I think it’s (second place) is a positive thing, so, we hope to build on it.”
Real de Banjul now have three crucial games to cave good results out to achieve second position.
The three remaining games are against Brikama United, followed by an explosive derby with Wallidan before wrapping up the season with Banjul United.
