Real de Banjul gaffer Ebou Jarra says his side will not be complacent as they look to maintain their 100% record in the league when they face ‘wounded-lions’, Gamtel, who endured a 3-1 lost in their season opener, on Saturday.

Ebou Jarra and his charges will play away to Gamtel tomorrow at the National Technical Training Center in Yundum, in Match Day 2 of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) League Division One.

The Real de Banjul Head Coach gave a detailed interview to the Club’s Media Officer Foday Jatta during his side’s final preparation for tomorrow’s encounter.

Asked about Real de Banjul’s chances against Gamtel who lost 3-1 to BK Milan in their first game of the season and some of their key players to other teams including forward Baboucarr Jallow who joined Real de Banjul, Jarra said:
“Whether they lost players or not is irrelevant (to us) because they will always start eleven players on the pitch and despite them losing their first game, they will come back fighting like wounded lions, so we just don’t have to be complacent. We want to play with Gamtel and give them the respect but we want them to chase shadows and not the ball.”

Asked about the confidence in camp ahead of the encounter with Gamtel:
“It’s a blessing and a good thing to have, the boys are calm and focused and ready to take any task that is put ahead of them, so the confidence is there, the motivation is there and the spirit is high! We have a very strong attacking minded team in the likes of Kajally Drammeh, Salifu Colley (Bayerno) and others, so if we can deny Gamtel from scoring goals, I don’t think we can play 90 minutes
without scoring. We thank the board for the bonuses that were given to the boys for their first win, it’s been great.”

Asked about what his team could improve on:
“There is always room for improvement, we conceded a goal in our first game and we wanted to keep a clean sheet and that didn’t happen so we have to improve on that. We had chances to bury Tallinding United in the first half so that they wouldn’t even think of coming back in the second half, but the one nil gave them the spirit that they could come and fight. Thank God we caught them on the back foot and scored the second goal, but it was a little bit difficult because we should have scored more goals in the first half. So, these are some of things we need to improve on.”

Asked about whether there’s any player out who the team might miss in the Saturday encounter:
“No, that’s the beauty of having a strong squad, even if one player is injured there’s always someone who can come in and who’s equally good, it’s not like you’re playing with number one and number two. Look at the goalkeeping department; you have Ebrima Jarju, the Gambia U-23 goalkeeper and the Gambia U-20 goalkeeper in Lamin Saidy, so obviously who ever steps in will do a good job. So, for us we are not missing anyone!”

Jarra also congratulated his side for their opening league game victory over his former side, Tallinding United which was Real de Banjul’s first league game at their new home, the Live Your Dreams Sports Academy complex, in Basori, in the Kombo East District.
