Head Coach Bye Malleh Wadda labelled Kajally Drammeh as one of the best players in The Gambia after the U20 captain inspired Real De Banjul to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Fortune FC.

Kajally Drammeh missed Real de Banjul’s narrow defeat to Fortune FC and could only come off the bench in the 1-1 draw after an injury layoff in the second round of last season at the Independence Stadium.

Our number 10 yesterday clipped a delightful cross for Modou Lamin Demba to equalise, then setting up David Sambou to give us the lead before stretching the City Boys’ lead to 3-1 with a breathtaking swinger.

After impressive Foday Darboe put the icing on the cake, Kajally almost made another assist after he set Modou Lamin Demba one-on-one with the keeper, but Demba, unfortunately, could only hit the body of the Fortune goalkeeper.

“Excellent player, excellent performance. He (Kajally) has shown that he’s one of the best players in the Gambia and I think he’s one the best players. He’s shown not just locally but internationally. Everybody saw his performance with the Gambia U20, he was excellent in the finals of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania. So, I think he can just improve and he is going to improve because he’s hardworking and we are just happy and proud to have him with us,” head coach Bye Malleh Wadda said of the whizz-kid.

Kajally who missed a chunk of league games last season because of his involvement with the Gambia U-20 and through injury, started this season with a bang and after the game told waiting reports.

“Before the game, I was talking to Campo (a Gambian journalist with Star TV Gambia) who was telling me that there’s a tough defender with Fortune FC from Senegal, I told him that if that defender is from Senegal I am not afraid of him. If you tell me he’s a defender from the Gambia is better than these defenders from Senegal, I am not afraid of them. That’s why when I controlled the ball I went through him spin it (the ball) inside!”

Drammeh accepted that his role is to provide and score goals for his team saying: “The assists, I am inside the field for that, I have to pass and then score. I am very happy today.”

Our number 10 has ambition to win the league for Real de Banjul this time saying: “Since I came to Real de Banjul, we always finish second and last season we finished third. This year we are pushing for the first position.”

David Sambou who missed the whole of the second round of the last season through injury was another top performer. The centre back scored what was the icing on the cake after he headed Kajally’s cross beyond the Fortune goalie.

He said: “I’m very happy today, to be honest I’m very happy because this is what they expect from me. To be in this club, I always have to do my utmost best because this is why I am here, I have to do my best. I am very happy to be on the scoresheet. This is what the coach always tells us, to move forward and to be relaxed in the box so that we can hit the target.”

David is also dreaming to win the league and moving to the next level like many other Real de Banjul players saying: “This year we are trying so bad so that we can win the league because we did not win it since 2014. So, we are going to do everything possible to win it. We are all dreaming trying to move from one level to another level and if that national team call-up opportunity comes, we have to take it”.

The 4-1 victory over Fortune FC propelled the City Boys to the top of the table after seeing Gamtel FC, Hawks FC and Wallidan FC winning by two goal margins with newly promoted Falcons FC beating Steve Biko 3-0.

Real de Banjul will return to the Independence Stadium to take on Marimoo FC this Friday at 20:00GMT.
