FIFA president Gianni Infantino has joined the list of football personalities to send their condolence following the passing of our club legend Papa Sarr Corr. Papa joined the club in the early 90s and rose to become club captain leading the Real de Banjul to many titles during his glittering playing career. “I would like to express my sincerest and heartfelt condolences on the passing of former international player, Papa Sarr Corr. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel for this loss,” Infantino said in a letter addressed to the GFF president. “During his career, Papa Sarr Corr was one of the pillars of the national team of The Gambia. At club level, having started to play at Peak Marwick FC, he will be remembered for his long and successful career at Real de Banjul FC. “Captain and legend of Real de Banjul FC, his legacy and achievements, and in particular his friendly personality, his popularity, his leadership, his loyalty and his human qualities, will not be forgotten, and he will be truly missed. “On behalf of the international football community, I wish to extend our deepest sympathy to The Gambia Football Federation, and to Papa Sarr’s family, his friends and loved ones. Our thoughts are with all of you.” Papa Sarr stayed with the club after hanging his boots in 2000 to serve in various capacities as coach, scout and technical adviser to the head coach of the club. “His passing has shocked the football club,” said club president William Abraham. “Papa was an honest gentleman who was always ready to help.” We pray that his soul rest in eternal peace
