The Real De Banjul FC board has written to the Gambia Football Federation, not accepting their offer to represent the Gambia in next season’s CAF Champions League. Real De Banjul FC is not only one of the oldest members of the GFF, but we have always played a cardinal role in the development of football in The Gambia by following the Laws and Rules of the game, invest in all aspects of football development, support the GFF to best of our ability at all times. The club does not want its reputation and those of its members to be unfairly tainted. We feel that the club should have been crowned champions when the season was abandoned.

The Gambia Football Federation has officially written to Real De Banjul FC declaring the 2019/20 season “null and void.” The decision according to the GFF was reached after consultations with the stakeholders who agreed for the league to be annulled. “We have received two communiques from Football House confirming the decision of annulling the season,” said Club President, William Abraham. The GFF ruled that there will be “no winners, no promotion or relegation” while opening the opportunity for the top two to represent the Gambia in next season’s CAF Inter-club championships. “The Federation has informed us that we will be accorded the opportunity to play in the CAF Champions League. “The club hierarchy will meet and discuss the whole situation and decide on how the club should react to the GFF’s position on the matter,” William told www.realdebanjul.gm. The president also thanked the players, staff and supporters of the club. “We’re in difficult times due to the Coronavirus but the players, staff and supporters have been really supportive and we really appreciate that. “We want everyone to stay safe and follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the WHO as we fight COVID19.”

As we adjust to life due to the Coronavirus pandemic, forcing the postponement of all football activities, Riverboat Doctors International through their partners Project Aid the Gambia donated dozens of football equipments to Real De Banjul FC. The equipments were received by club president William Abraham on Saturday morning at a brief presentation ceremony. “This is a massive support to our club,” William told the club website. “Riverboat Doctors International through their partners Project Aid the Gambia donated dozens of brand new football boots for our team and jerseys for the academy.” Mathias Ketteler presented the equipments on behalf of the international non-governmental civil society organisation. “The donated equipment will cut cost for the club as we invest a lot on football and jerseys for our team and they cost so much,” added William. Riverboat-Doctors-International eV is a non-profit organization whose aim is to provide help for the needy and sick people in Africa. Whiles PATG works to eradicate poverty in The Gambia through various programs such as building school, garden projects for rural villagers, providing solar systems for hospitals, free dental work for the poor. Mathias Ketteler was taken on a conducted tour on various Real De Banjul project sites and he was impressed with the work of the club. “We want to thank Project Aid the Gambia for the timely donation because these equipments are always needed by the club. “We hope that it will be the first of many presentations as we build a solid partnership with them,” William concluded. Real De Banjul currently sit top of the suspended Gambia Football Federation first division with 29 points after 14 matches.
