Former Gambia international winger Aziz Corr Nyang says he returned to the country to join Real de Banjul in order to fulfill a childhood dream he has always had.

The 37-year-old former Djurgårdens IF wing-wizard, who was one-time the most sought after player in Swedish football, says he’s always been a fan of the City Boys and had always harboured ambitions to play for the Club.

“I am a big fan of Real de Banjul. I always wanted to play for Real de Banjul since I was going to school, so for me to come back home to play for Real de Banjul before I stop playing, has always been my dream and what I always wanted,” Corr Nyang told www.realdebanjul.gm.

Aziz trained with the Club before he moved to Europe but didn’t make the cut at the time which made him join the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA).

He recalled: “I trained with Real de Banjul but I couldn’t make it, then I went to GPA before I went to Europe (to start his career with IFK Lidingö). I’ve lived in Europe for more than 20 years but I always wanted to play for Real de Banjul before I stop playing football and that’s the motivation I have had all along. I’ve always told my friends and love ones that I want to play for Real de Banjul before I hang my boots, so that’s why I came back.”

Asked how the move to the City Boys came about, Aziz said: “Nobody asked me to come to Real de Banjul, I decided by myself and I believe I can now fulfill my childhood dreams.”

Aziz, a former player for Åtvidabergs FF, GIF Sundsvall and IF Brommapojkarna, says his return will also avail him the opportunity to guide the young players in the Club and share his experience with them.

“I am also here to help the young players, the coaching staff, and the team to maintain the first position and win the league. I know that I can help the team a lot and I can still do the job if I am given the chance. I will just leave the talking and do it on the pitch for people to see. I will try to help the youngsters also and try to help develop them to have a European mentality and be ready for when they leave to sign their professional contracts,” he said.

Aziz Corr Nyang moved to Sweden at a tender age to live with his mother before he joined IFK Lidingö in the Swedish third division, guiding them to earn promotion to the second-tier thereby becoming top scorer of the league with 21 goals before he earned himself a move to Swedish giants Djurgården, winning the Allsvenskan (league) and Svenska Cupen (Swedish Cup) titles.
